No Torque Converter

The converter is replaced with a torsional damper, allowing 98% engine torque to the transmission.

The innovative coupling of the input planetary gear set with MG1 replaces the role of the torque converter and allows the transmission to recharge the battery and operate the stop and start function during idling.

No Shift Clutches

Unlike current powersplit design used in most hybrid vehicles, the patented Aurtronic drives vehicle(s) above 6000 Ibs curb weight such as light and medium duty trucks. The torque assist and variable ratio capability eliminates the need for torque interrupting friction clutches common in Manual, DCT and Automatic transmissions.

Fewer Gears

Net weight savings compared to the 7 speed plus transmissions classifies the Aurtronic as one of the lightest per pound of torque output drivetrains in the automotive market.

As a result, the overall assembly weight with the MGs is comparable to an 8 speed Automatic with the ratio spread of an 11 speed transmission.
